"Island Hopping" out today on Putumayo Discovery!

A joyful musical voyage celebrating the rhythms & spirit of tropical island life!

Island Hopping is a joyful musical voyage celebrating the rhythms and spirit of tropical island life from Cuba to Cabo Verde, Haiti to Hawai’i and beyond! Circumnavigating the globe from the Pacific to the Atlantic with stops in the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the album features upbeat Polynesian reggae, retro Trinidad-style calypso, danceable Cabo Verdean coladeira, soulful Cuban and Puerto Rican salsa, the infectious sega of Mauritius, and more.

Despite the diverse cultural influences they represent, these celebratory songs fit together naturally on this collection, revealing that the sea that separates these islands has also connected them across time and distance.

Island Hopping is available for download on our website, iTunes, Qobuz, & Bandcamp with streaming on Apple, Spotify, Qobuz, Deezer, Pandora and other major platforms.

Musician Spotlight

Annega (Mauritius)

Featured on Island Hopping

Annega, born Anne Gaëlle Bourquin, is a singer-songwriter from Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 500 miles east of Madagascar. Her pop music blends Mauritian Creole, English, and French with the 6/8 rhythms of sega, the island’s main local music style. Her song “Lorizon” (The Horizon) was chosen as the signature song of Air Mauritius, and “Losean” (The Ocean), about protecting coral reefs, won three Flame Awards. She has represented Mauritius at the Francofolies de La Réunion and Mundial Montréal, and released the album Stories (2026) on Kabann Records.

“Eoula” is sung in Mauritian Creole, the everyday language of an island that had no Indigenous population and whose people trace their roots to Africa, India, Europe, and China. Written by Annega and producer Cedric Cartier, the song urges listeners to stop waiting for change and take their lives into their own hands. Its release launched a crowd-funding campaign with several Mauritian nonprofit organizations. “If you want it, it’s in your hands / If you want it, it’s in your hands / If you want it, don’t let time slip away, make every day count.”
